Here's an effort to breathe a little life back in. :-) I'd like to hear what everyone else is watching!
This season brings about a plethora of choices coming out in Japan. Here are some of the harem choices we've been presented with. Kanon 2006 looks like a good remake of the series many of us know and love. ^_~ Tokimeki Memorial. A little strange. I have to wonder where they're going with it, other than I know it's a "classic" game finally turned anime series. Asatte no Houko. At the start of this show, you wonder where exactly it's going. It seems to be a rather quiet show, however the first episode ends with quite the surprise between the two female main characters! Yoake mae yori ruuriro no- Crescent Love I think I'll just call this one "Crescent Love" to make it easier. At the end of the first episode, I'll be adding this to my harem shows of the season. With a twist. Girl who the main boy doesn't remember is actually the Moon Princess!
For magical girl fluff, there are two shows continuing from last season, as well as a new one. Fairy Musketeer Akazukin (Otogi Juushi Akazukin.) Very cute. Eventually I'll get to see more than the first episode. *grin* Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. Oh dear. The cavities. Honestly, I couldn't take more than one episode. The artwork was adorable, but I'm still trying to gather the pieces of my head together! If you liked the original Powerpuff Girls cartoon, though, you should be just fine. *twitch* Sasami Magical Girl Club How many times can they redo the Pretty Sammy stuff? It just started airing. Definitely some variances. The artstyle is cutesy. Even being a magical girl fan, I'll have to try one more episode to see if I can keep up, but it wasn't a big deterrant like Powerpuff.
Misc: Happiness! One of my favorites from the season. Not entirely "magical girl", except in the truest sense. There are girls that use magic, who wind up having to go to class with the rest of the "normal" students. Another Boy who doesn't remember Girl, maybe? A fun show, at any rate. Somewhat harem & magical girl show, I suppose. Lovely Idol. *yawn* The first chunk was spent with the girls performing... *are we getting to a plot yet* After you sit through the (literal) song and dance, eventually you get into a bit of the story. It might not be so bad, but it's definitely more on the eye candy side.
This season has a whole bunch of other excellent shows as well, but I'll keep the shoujo ones to here. :-)
Hello~~~ I have some lovely xxxHolic icons for you!
most of it... all of it, relaly... is from the 7th-8th manga (that isn't technically out in English yet) so... I don't think they're spoilery, the images aren't anyways and the concepts are nothing new. So~ yeah.
"Hitsuzen" is a xxxHolic/Tsubasa RPG, based on the serieses by CLAMP (the manga! Manga!!). This RP starts at the end of Tsubasa book 7 and xxxHolic book 6. We haven't developed much of a plot yet, so all plotbunnies are welcome. Lots of characters are open, and if there's any that aren't on the list that you want to play, we can add them easily enough!
Went by the local Best Buy last week, and what should I find but the first disk of the Ah My Goddess TV series? :-D This makes for a happy Jeri. Very happy. Beautiful job on the cover, I must say. This makes me happy. I'm truly hoping that they'll do another season for it. Fabulous series!
The popular shoujo running this season has just come to an end- Honey and Clover. The ending looks like it'll be a little disappointing, but apparently there will be a live-action movie coming for it that will hopefully make up for the short-comings of the series.
Despite the sadness of it ending, the extremely fabulous news is that Paradise Kiss will be filling its time slot, and is supposed to start October 13. The promos look excellent!
It appears that there is a continuation to the series Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and the first episode has just aired. I enjoyed the first series, so with any luck the continuation will be just as interesting. (And answer some of those questions the first one didn't.)
Also disappointing is that Tsubasa is about to come to an end. Pray for another season! I'm also anxiously awaiting the movie for both it and xxxHolic, which were released in Japan in August.
For a cute shoujo, check out Gakuen Alice. It's one that aired in Japan last fall, and is about half subtitled now. Filled with much sillyness, and is almost a mahou-shoujo. But not quite.
Here's to an exciting new season, where hopefully shoujo will be featured as prominently as it was this season! (And I'll continue to pray that Hot Gimmick gets turned into an anime. Crack I tell you!)
I was just wondering how many of you read shoujo manga in addition to watching anime. I know a few of you do! If you do, how much impact does the art have on how much you like the work?
I ask because a couple of days ago I picked up a copy of Tokyo Boys and Girls, the latest work by Miki Aihara. She's the manga-ka who wrote and drew Hot Gimmick, one of my absolute favorite shoujo mangas. Hot Gimmick, in my opinion, has extremely good artwork, and a fantastic story. It drew me in because both were so amazing. However, in Tokyo Boys and Girls, the art isn't nearly as good - I was quite dissapointed, especially since, as far as I can tell, Tokyo was published after Gimmick. The story has potential, though.
Hmm, in retrospect, this question can apply equally well to both anime and manga.
So what do you guys think? Does art trump story, or does story trump art, or do they have to both be pretty good?
Just today, another LJ Memeber, vashutstampedo asked me an interesting question.
You're the creator of the community right?
Isn't there a certain anime-genre based on romance stories but with a lot of action elements? I'm a guy into that kinda thing. You know, the hero defeating impossible odds for the girl or sacrifices something/himself for her.
Here's my reply...
I'm not really certain if there is an actual GENRE for what you are looking for, there are, however, several titles that fit nicely into the category you are looking for.
Chobits, fits in that category. Full Metal Panic does, to some extent. Nadesico; certain parts of Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha. Castle in the Sky, Oh! My Goddess and Tenchi Universe all fit in there, as well. Don't bother with the other incarnations of Tenchi, though. Tenchi in Tokyo and Tenchi Muyo! aren't really good examples.
I am, also, going to put this in a post in the main community to see what everyone else thinks.
I have something to admit. I... am a shoujo addict. After trying long and hard to deny it ("I only like a little bit of shoujo!"), it's come out. It's not my absolute favorite, but it IS something I love.
A quick view of my manga and anime collections...
